Lenten Book Study

Lent 2017

During the season of Lent 2017, Fr. Drew led a Sunday morning class using Fleming Rutledge’s latest book, Crucifixion: Understanding the Death of Jesus Christ. The book is an extended meditation upon the Cross as the center of Christian faith. Rutledge is an Episcopal priest, the author of seven other well-received and books, and a widely-respected preacher across denominational lines. Crucifixion: Understanding the Death of Jesus Christ was named the 2016 Book of the Year by Christianity Today. She was the featured speaker at the Mockingbird Conference in New York City in April 2017.

Session III: The Question of Justice

Session IV: The Gravity of Sin

Session V: 8 Motifs for the Atonement

Session VI: Condemned into Redemption

This class was offered in memory of our beloved John McConnell, a devoted attendee of past Sunday morning Bible studies, a leader in this congregation, and a mentor and example to many in the recovery community and beyond. For those who participate in the class, free copies of the book are available from the church office, while they last. The gift of these books is made possible by an anonymous donor in gratitude for the life, humor, and ministry of John McConnell.
