Why I Continue to Support St. Alban's Chapel . . .
by Dean Holden
St. Albans Chapel is the most special church in my life. Having been baptized and confirmed in its Chapel, it will always be home for me. The Sunday evening services were quite convenient while I was a student at LSU (not to mention the dinner :) ). As life has moved me around the country and world for that matter, I have visited many other churches. Many have made me feel welcome and given me a sense of community as a Christian. However, while sitting on the pew during a service at St. Albans, I feel a sense of belonging that I have not felt anywhere else! (Dean attended LSU from 1998 - 2005.)
Why I Love St. Alban's Chapel . . .
by David Scotton
My name is David Scotton, and I found this church my freshmen year of undergrad when my hometown priest gave Fr. Drew my contact information. Fr. Drew invited me to St. Alban's, and it took a few weeks to get the courage to try this new church. During my first visit to St. Alban's I sat in the back, unbeknownst to me that this new church started the communion procession from the back! Everyone looked at me until I realized this, and I was so embarrassed I hesitated to come back.
But Fr. Drew continued to invite me to church, and I decided to come back during my sophomore year of college when I felt as if I was missing "something." When I started to attend St. Alban's again, I started to find that "something." Since then, I've continued to come here and am now a first-year law student right next door. I specify "right next door" because, although I spent my undergrad years coming here, I've actually spent more time at St. Alban's since law school began. It's become a second home for me, a home where I frequently go pray in the chapel, and a home where I enjoy so many good friendships when I stop by.
I love the support system St. Alban's has given me, and the college ministry has truly helped me feel at home — home in having the ability and confidence to continue to grow in my relationship with Christ.
What I Love About St. Alban's Chapel . . .
by Abbey Maxwell
I came to LSU in fall of 2014, from the twin island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, to pursue my Masters’ in geophysics. My family is very active in the Anglican Church in Trinidad, and my father is also the priest-in charge of the church that we attend. As an international student, it is difficult to adjust to life in a new country, away from family and friends and all that is familiar. Naturally, I tried to find an Anglican church that I could attend here at LSU. I was extremely happy to be able to find St. Alban’s right on campus!
The St. Alban’s family is filled with amazing people who love God and led by our own, very enthusiastic Fr. Drew. Everyone was so warm and inviting and I knew that I found a place that not only would give me the spiritual support I needed but also a family that I could always count on. St. Alban’s student ministry provides an important space for young people on campus and in the community to come together to learn more about our faith and give us a break from the stress of school. From the dinner for students at Fr. Drew’s home, to hiking activities, to bible study, to Lunch with C.S. Lewis, to a study space at the church with internet and snacks, St. Alban’s has definitely contributed to my overall well-being and success on campus.
I will miss my church family when I graduate and return to Trinidad and I know that St. Alban’s will continue touch hundreds of students through the hard work and dedication of all the members of the church.
